Succession Ireland facilitates the succession conversation within families, namely the transfer of assets from one generation to the next taking into account, as far as possible, the needs and expectations of all family members.
Our aim is to ensure security for the retirees, treat all family members fairly while protecting the viability of the core family business and ensuring the family achieves a harmonious succession plan.
What we do
The Succession Ireland team focusses on succession facilitation from two very important aspects: the human and the business. A facilitated family business meeting creates an environment where all members feel comfortable and are enabled to express their hopes, concerns and ideas. This facilitates family members to maintain positive and happy family relationships while ensuring the future viability of the family business.
When to call us
- When a family member wants to enter into the business
- When a family member wants to retire from the business
- Before a new member joins the business, e.g. through marriage or partnership.
- If the unplanned happens e.g. marriage breakdown, serious ill-health, sudden death.
- If communication has broken down in the family and you are concerned for the future
- No-one is interested/available to take over the business
- A major change in the business strategy is needed or has occurred.
The sooner succession issues are discussed, the easier it is to ensure that all family members feel fairly treated.
As facilitators we can ask the awkward and hard questions. The family will be given an opportunity to achieve their own solutions so plans are made with the full agreement of all members.
Facilitators are not experts handing out advice nor do they negate the role of the accountant or solicitor. It is recommended to make your accountant, consultant and solicitor aware of your family meeting should their expertise be required.
Facilitation and training
As well as providing a facilitation service which specializes in working with family businesses, Succession Ireland also provides training for groups offering courses and workshops on communication for family businesses and succession planning.
